Dennis Alan Taylor is a retired banker, and Jennifer Marina Joy is a psychologist. The father of her mother, who is Argentinean of Scottish as well as English roots is her maternal grandmother. Her mother hails from Spanish as well as English heritage. Taylor-Joy has five siblings four from her father's previous marriage. The family lived at Buenos Aires until she was six, after which they moved to the Victoria area of London. Taylor Joy admitted that the transition from Buenos Aires to Victoria was a struggle as she was unable to learn English in hopes of going again to Argentina. She had to switch schools to Northlands to Hill House. In the following years, she attended Queen's Gate School, where she studied dance and performed in productions. She dropped out of high school when she was 16 in order to focus on her acting career. Taylor-Joy was a child actress who knew she would become one. Her dreams were realized when Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Management offered her a job as a model.
